We have been producing 3D printed resin gears for over 2 years, bringing hundreds of old Bachmann split chassis steam locomotives and Mainline Diesel locomotives back to a working condition. Although we have sold thousands of gears, we have had a few customers comment about how brittle the gears are, and in some cases, customer have broken the replacement gears during the assembly process. Once assembled, without damage, the gears are hard and will run for many hundreds of hours without failure.
In a quest to improve the gears, and to reduce the number of problems customers encounter when assembling the gears to the locomotive, we have been working on a new resin formulation that will reduce the brittleness of the gears while maintaining the excellent wear resistance of the gears in service. We are delighted to announce that we have now finished testing the new resin formulation, and all orders for gears from week commencing 31st October 2022 will be manufactured using the new resin formulation.
